The objective for this assignment was to conduct a keyword search that could be used for Metrolina Greenhouses’ Search Engine Optimization. In order to do so, I used three different methods!
Method 1: TheHoth
The first method is used to find the keywords of competitors. In order to start this process I first identified who Metrolina’s top competitors are, and came up with Bonnie Plants Inc. The next step was to input Bonnie Plants Inc URL into the website The HOTH. Now, for this first part of the method, I was looking for a result that had a high rank and volume, with a low number of search results. Out of these results I decided to use the phrase, “how to prune tomato plants”. Lastly, I plugged that phrase into the Ahrefts Keyword Generator, and found that if the phrase is expanded by a specific reason to prune the tomato, the keyword difficulty would be at an easy level.
Method 2: Google Trends
For this method, I first went to the website Google Trends. The next step was to determine some trendy words that would coincide with Metrolina Greenhouse, and plug one in. The keyword that I chose was “plants”. The results show that there is a seasonal trend with the search of plants increasing in early spring, peaking in may, and decreasing over the summer into fall. Google trends also shows the subregions that have the most interest in the term plants- the top two being Vermont and North Carolina. Lastly, it provides related terms to the keyword, and I chose “indoor plants” which was inputed that in to Ahrefts Keyword Generator. The results concluded a phrase with an easy keyword difficulty, being “grow lights for indoor plants”.
Method 3: Google Ads
For this final method, Google Ads was used to help generate new keywords, using the keyword planner. Once I identified the top keywords, I then inputed them into Ahrefts Keyword Generator, and found 6 sets of keyword phrases with a KD of easy or medium.
